Lydia Painter’s Portfolio Project
What inspired you to make a career change into the UI design field?
I wanted to have a career which fulfilled both my meticulous, analytical side and my creative, experimental side. I found that UI Design provided the perfect combination of research and delving into the details while also getting to play around with different ideas.
What did you enjoy most about the animation course?
I loved the variety of projects I got to work on throughout the programme and the freedom I was given to explore the different aspects of UI Design. The course materials were interesting and in-depth, and I can now talk about design with confidence. The tutors and mentors were always supportive and keen to offer any help or advice. They also encouraged me to push myself to create the best work possible for my portfolio.
What did you enjoy about creating this project?
I really enjoyed collaborating with my mentor, Edo. His feedback always helped me to get out of a creative rut if I was facing one, and he was always eager to share helpful tips on animation techniques and what life is like as a Motion Designer. Our shared enthusiasm for trying out new ideas made me feel comfortable discussing the different visualisations I had for my project.
With regards to your new skills, what are your hopes for the future?
I am currently interviewing for the roles of UI/UX Designer at different companies—it’s been a pretty intense couple of weeks with 2 interviews a day and I’m hoping to receive a job offer soon. Once I have settled into my new role, I would love to explore the world of motion design further by signing up for workshops and courses so I can truly make this my specialisation. I also want to register for CareerFoundry’s Web Development course so I can become an all-rounder when it comes to design and coding.
